Youth Virtual Challenge 2024

Get ready for an epic adventure! The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) proudly presents a virtual nuclear science and technology competition where students unleash their creativity and engineering skills to design and build virtual structures within the Minecraft Education environment.

Students were challenged to create and present their creation according to the chosen theme which are specifically designed to align with key IAEA strategic initiatives and promote sustainable application of nuclear science that directly contribute to nine UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Nuclear Technology for Controlling Plastic Pollution for Sustainable Plastic Solutions

In this category, students were tasked to conceptualize, design, and construct plastic recycling facilities that utilize nuclear technology to promote a circular plastic economy. Students explored innovative solutions in recycling and upcycling technology that utilizes ionizing radiation, in a circular manner to enable generation of added value products from post-consumer and post-industrial plastic waste, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the role of NST in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development.

Sustainable Radioactive Waste Management for the Aspirational Effort to Net Zero Emission by 2050

In this category, students were tasked design and implement effective strategies for the management of radioactive waste within the Minecraft Education Platform. Students will consider innovative approaches to waste processing, disposal, and long-term monitoring, all while striving to minimize environmental impact and contribute to the overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
